Bar Harbor Police Participate in Racial Equality Working Group at Jesup Memorial Library

Jesup Memorial Library Racial Equality Working Group meeting

Representatives from the Bar Harbor Police Department at the Racial Equality Working Group meeting.

The Bar Harbor Police Department would like to extend our sincere gratitude to the Jesup Memorial Library for inviting us to attend the Racial Equality Working Group meeting last night. We also want to thank everyone who participated in this important community dialogue.

The department was represented by Sergeant Soren Sundberg, Sergeant Christopher Dickens, and Mental Health Liaison Melissa Tozier, who engaged with community members in meaningful discussions about equity, inclusion, and the role of law enforcement in fostering a safe and welcoming environment for all residents and visitors.

"These conversations are vital to building trust and understanding between law enforcement and the communities we serve. We're grateful for the opportunity to listen, learn, and share our perspectives in such a collaborative setting."

— Sgt. Soren Sundberg

The Racial Equality Working Group, hosted by the Jesup Memorial Library, brings together diverse community members to discuss issues related to racial equity and justice in Bar Harbor and the surrounding areas. Last night's meeting focused on community policing strategies and how law enforcement can better serve all members of our community.

We have also received numerous supportive messages from community members today, which we deeply appreciate. This positive feedback reinforces our commitment to transparent and collaborative community engagement.
